Connected products are a source of substantial amounts of data that is largely left unexploited (the Internet of things (IoT). The EU Data Act strives to open the opportunities for the Europeans to tap on this potential and distribute value in the IoT data chains fairer. In doing so, the legislator needed to make the conditions of the fair sharing of connected products data absolutely clear.
Now, following the recent release of the AI Act e-tool, our Finnish-Danish joint action releases the Entries Data Act e-tool to explain those conditions, personalised, in a snapshot, for all parties involved in that flow of connected products data.
The e-tool, like the AI Act e-tool, will be available free of charge to all Finnish industry sectors and the Danish health tech sector throughout 2025. In addition the e-tool is available free of charge to all SMEs and public organisations in the EU as well as Ukraine through the network of the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs).
Besides regulating the B2B and B2C sharing of connected products data, the Data Act contains rules and obligations in relation to other B2B data sharing, unfair contractual terms related to data access and use between enterprises, switching between data processing services, participation in data spaces, use of smart contracts for executing data sharing agreements and a few more items. Worry not, because the Data Act e-tool guides you through these items as well and gives you the opportunity to understand every stakeholder’s role and responsibilities accordingly.
Meanwhile, the joint action partners will finalise the Entries e-tool on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation and prepare questionnaires to collect user feedback during 2025 about the experience of benefitting from the e-tools. You will be informed of these developments in due course. Find out more about the joint action from the project website of The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra.
